Did you ever have a day when you were recognized at school for something special? Perhaps it was for “Star of the Week” in kindergarten, placing first in a track and field event, earning a place in an honor band or choir or having your artwork displayed in a prominent place. Remember how special you felt? Leah* experienced this joy as her teacher chose her to represent her classroom by showing others how to make Thai desserts at the school. Leah loves to make Thai desserts and was beaming as she donned her cook’s apron and hat and shared her talent with her school. Vicki* also had the opportunity to make somtum (papaya salad) and sell it to other students at her school. These were great opportunities to learn how to start a small business when they grow up.
