A VALENTINE’S PRAYER

It’s Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2022. To some it may feel like we are caught between a rock and a hard place.  In a world full of turmoil, COVID related mandates and protests, threats of war (Russia-Ukraine) and big questions about the future, this day brings a special reminder that love matters. And it matters hugely!

An excellent prayer reminding us about God’s love come from from Ephesians 3:14-21. In this passage, the Apostle Paul helps us remember the grounds of our faith and the cause for hope for the future:

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (ESV)

What a worthy prayer! Being empowered by God’s Spirit never establishes us in God’s love. Can we possibly ever grasp the length, width, height, and depth of this love? This love for us is as far as God sent his only begotten Son for us. After living a sinless life, Jesus’ arms were stretched out on the cross for us all. And he rose from the dead for us all. This is the message we take to the world.

My wish, this Valentine’s Day, is that I will become a better expression of this love. ~ RobG
